The Britten Partnership creates links between
Education and the Employment and Business Community.
Our aim is to provide young people with an excellent understanding of the world of employment as well as the many different Further and Higher Education and Training routes available to them.
We achieve this via a variety of Work Related learning activities including Themed Conferences and Ambassador Programmes.
We are one of the preferred providers for Ambassador Programmes in Health and Social Care and work closely with Sector Skills Councils and the NHS.

NEWS
Mental Health Scenario project
The Britten Partnership currently offers two scenario events for schools and colleges; ‘The Accident’ and ‘A Family in Crisis’.
In these events a team of actors act out part of a scenario to help demonstrate how professionals from a range of disciplines work together to best meet the needs of a client, service user or patient. Through a series of interactive workshops lead by professionals, young people are then introduced to a range of careers learning about the work involved, skills and qualifications needed and the importance of such things as good communication and team working.
They are used both as a stand alone event and as a springboard for lessons in the classroom. Both are very well received by young people and teachers with the students talking about them for weeks afterwards.
The Britten Partnership is pleased to announce that their new scenario product – set within the field of mental health - is currently in development and will be launched later this year.
Mental Health is the most natural subject for the next scenario due to some of the issues raised by ‘The Accident’ and ‘A Family in Crisis’. Many people know someone who has been affected by mental illness, few people know very much about it.
As well as exploring careers in Mental Health, the scenario will be used as a vehicle to raise awareness of mental health issues and to get young people and staff interested and talking about mental health and stigma. It will also raise awareness of mental health issues in schools and colleges. It is envisaged that it will sit alongside and link in with the national campaign Time to Change, local campaigns such as Squash Stigma and with the charity Young Minds.
A Family Crisis at Lowestoft College.
A very successful scenario day was run at Lowestoft College enabling students to work with Health and Social Care professionals to follow through what happens in the aftermath of a Family Crisis. Students witnessed the ‘Family Crisis’, performed by actors, and through interactive workshops hosted by professionals found out about the variety of people involved in meeting the needs of the characters depicted in the scenario. The event included an Exhibition Area providing students with an opportunity to talk to professionals from across the health and social care sectors and representatives from local universities.
The event was sponsored by Lowestoft College and NHS Suffolk County Workforce Group.
Workshop leaders were recruited by Lowestoft College, the James Paget Hospital and The Britten Partnership. Workshops were delivered on the following topics: Midwifery, General Nursing, Sexual Health, Dementia, Alcohol, Youth Work, Surestart, Health Visiting. There were at least 12 organisations represented in the Exhibition Area. Approximately 175 students and 10 teachers attended the event.

Bedfordshire Healthcare Opportunities Programme
Aimhigher Bedfordshire and Luton and Health Ambassadors East are jointly funding a programme of activities and events for AimHigher (Widening Participation) students in Bedfordshire & Luton interested in a career in healthcare. The Programme will comprise a series of master classes for Year 10 students (age 14 – 15), CPD events for Careers and Health and Social Care teachers and a one day Health conference for Year 10 and 6th form students.
Mark Rutherford School in Bedford was the venue for a recent Nursing Masterclass for young people in Yr 10 and above interested in pursuing a career in Nursing. Students had an opportunity to talk to professionals from the 4 branches of nursing and carry out some practical activities. Feedback on the event was very positive as can be seen from the comments below.
- This was a fantastic event & it is very informative, it also helps in making future decisions. I also think there should be more events for different careers

- Thank you, it really helped me about my career thoughts
Since the event one teacher has explained how one of her students was able to draw on her attendance at the masterclass when she attended interview for a place on a Nursing degree course a few days later.
H&SC teachers and Careers Advisers from across Bedfordshire recently attended an afternoon IAG session on careers in the Allied Health Professions. The event was a mix of talks, activities, resources and literature to take away and use with their students. The highlight of the event was the opportunity to talk to a range of Health professionals in the ‘Guess my job’ activity. ‘Provided a useful ‘real life’ insight into a range of professions – nothing like hearing it ‘from the horse’s mouth!’.
The handouts and electronic resources were also welcomed and were in use by some delegates within a few days of the event.
These events were part of a suite of activities for teachers and students co-funded by Health Ambassadors East and the University of Bedfordshire as part of the Bedfordshire Healthcare Opportunities Programme. Further events are planned for the summer term.
The Britten Partnership launch 'What's the Point of......?'.
The Britten Partnership has used its extensive experience in running Ambassador Programmes and events to develop a new service for schools. 'What's the point of ........ ?' explores how study of a particular curriculum subject can lead to various career options within that academic or vocational field. Any subject such as Mathematics, Physics, French, English, Health and Social Care, Business Studies etc can be inserted to produce an interesting approach to Careers Education Information, Advice and Guidance, to identify pathways and to motivate young people to work harder and achieve better results. If you are looking to boost performance in a particular subject, say Mathematics, why not engage us to motivate your young people to achieve their full potential.
The format for the day, or half day, is a conference where a group of professionals with a background in the subject will run a series of workshops exploring their own pathways and wider career options within their own particular area. In addition keynote speakers will be available as well as exhibition areas where Professional Bodies and the Private and Public sector will be represented. Actors are sometimes used where appropriate to maximise the impact of the day.
To facilitate these events The Britten Partnership will visit your school to discuss the format for the day and the particular learning outcomes you are seeking. The Britten Partnership will then organise the event, recruit and train the workshop leaders and keynote speaker, recruit exhibitors, brief and rehearse the actors if appropriate, provide all documentation, oversee the event and provide an evaluation. The school will provide a venue, select the students to take part (providing transport if required) and provide catering for all guests.
